Writing: Description of a place

CIUTADELLA PARK

My favourite place is Ciutadella Park. It is situated in Barcelona, near the sea.
It is very big and there you can see many types of plants, trees and a lot of flowers. There are also a lot of birds.

You can practise a lot of activities in different zones. In one side there is a part for children where they can play safely while parents can be sure that children are safe.
There is another place for the practise of sport, where you can find all sorts of equipment.
Old people also have a great place to have a rest: there are some benches near the lake where they can feed the ducks.

In my opinion, it is the perfect place to disconnect from the stress caused by city. Although it is in the city centre, it seems that you are in the countryside.

FOR AND AGAINST ESSAY

Lowering the age teenagers can get a driving licence.

DRIVING LICENCE UNDER EIGHTEEN

Nowadays people get a driving licence at the age of eighteen. But are teenagers ready to get it before this age?

On the one hand, the young who have got a driving licence under eighteen could have more freedom and also they could be more independent from their parents. Moreover, some people think this would be a way of getting more responsibilities.

On the other hand, there are a lot of teenagers who aren’t prepared yet for a responsibility like this. There might be more accidents. Some people believe this fact leads us to consumerism.

In conclusion, my opinion is that the age currently stipulated is the correct one.

Strong windstorm shakes Berga city and its surroundings

Last week a strong and violent windstorm caused damage to the buildings in the region of Berguedà, but fortunately everyone was safe and sound.
By the afternoon the wind started blowing and by the evening it became worse.
At about eleven o’clock at night the light went out and the entire region didn’t have light until the next day.
This storm was caused by the high temperatures mixed with the low atmospheric pressure.
Three days after it all citizens had helped to clean and soon everything returned to normal.

FILM REVIEW-Writing- The boy in the striped pyjamas

Have you ever thought about how children feel in a war situation?
The bestseller The boy in the striped pyjamas by John Boyne has just come to the cinemas and explains this situation.

The story is set in World War II, in Berlin. Bruno (Asa Butterfield) is a nine-year old child whose father is a German military. The family moves to Auschwitz and there Bruno misses his friends and gets bored. One day he decides to explore the fence which is near his house. There, he meets Shmuel (a child who always wears a striped pyjama) and they become friends. As the days go on he will discover all the things that are going on there, what the fence means and who leads everything.

I enjoyed this film so much because it explains the war that everybody knows but from another point of view. I really recommend this film because we shouldn’t forget this event that left its mark on so many people.

AN ACCIDENT

It happened on my summer holidays. I was going to the beach with my family. That day we had to get up very early because we anted to arrive at our apartment early. It was a sunny and very hot day. My father was driving and I was reading a very interesting book. Suddenly, my father stopped the car because on the other side of the road a very big lorry crashed. We got scared because we heard a very loud metallic noise.
After a few minutes, the police came to see what had happened and fortunately it was only an accident and everyone was safe and sound.
Then we could continue our travel and, finally, we arrived at the apartment.

INFORMATIVE ESSAY

The Gorilla: An endangered animal

The Gorilla is the closest animal to our species. He can express feelings such us sadness and loneliness like us: humans.

His habitat is the jungle of Central Africa (between Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda and Rwanda). There are 3 types of gorillas: the Occidental plain gorilla, the Oriental plain gorilla and the Mountain gorilla.
Nowadays there are less than 650 gorillas left in the wild.

They live in groups: one male, some females and their cubs.
The male is bigger than the female. He can be 170 cm long and weigh about 140 kg. His fur is black and grey.
He is a vegetarian animal and he eats 30 kg of plants and fruit every day.
But gorillas haven’t got an easy life because his principal enemy is the humans. People hunt them to eat, to get their fur, to sell them as souvenirs or to make rituals.
If you want to help this endangered animal you can go to Internet and with only one click you can find a lot of organisations to help them like:
Karisoke Research Center, S.O.S Gorilla…

To sum up, all animals are very important and we must try to preserve them because it is not correct that they disappear only for our benefits.

FINAL REFLECTION

Hi, I’m Cristina Prat and now I’m going to talk about the English class in this year and the Commenius Project.
At the beginning we had to do a personal blog and during the year we make a lot of activities like: compositions about ourselves, a scary composition and others.
The activities I liked most were the recipie because I spend very funny moments with Júlia, and also the experience in the library with the people of fourth course, because I realised that this experience was great.
The activities I didn’t like were doing some compositions and then uploaded them in the blog.
I think that doing all the activities helped me to know more of English and also to learn about some computer programmes.
My oral activity was good although I was a little nervous, I think that my mark has to be a very good mark because I have worked a lot during this term and the last weeks.
In conclusion, my English has improved this year specially in the readings because I know a lot of vocabulary and I understand better than the second course.
I also like watching films, because I think that it’s a way to learn a lot and at the same time to spend a funny class.
To sum up I’m so happy because this year I learned and improved my English and I’m proud of it.

ST JORDI'S COMPOSITION

First of all, I don’t remember many things because I was very small, only the most important things and the most moving days in my life.
When I was a child I remember that I played with my brother and my sister as they were older than me and we spent funny and special moments. I also remember when I went to the beach in L’Escala with my uncles, aunts and cousins and we did large treks near the sea and the dinners in the terrace of the house.
When I was smaller I remember that I expected the arrival of the Three Wise Men with a lot of excitement in Avià with my family and then the next morning I woke up very soon and I always woke my brother and my sister and they were very angry.
I also remember one day when I was doing P4 level in Avià school, because that day I wore glasses for my first day and all the classmates were looking at me and I was very embarrassedly, I think I will never forget that moment!
And finally very important in my life was the day that I did my First Communion because all the family was together and that day was incredible.

LUCIE SILVAS-NOTHING ELSE MATTERS

My favourite song is “Nothing else matters”. It is a song by a group called Metalica, but Lucie Slilvas made a version of it some years later. Lucie was born in London, England. Her parents were also big music lovers and Lucie started this inspired career, besides the fact that her mother was an opera singer and wanted to pursues a career in music herself. She sings, is a songwriter and also plays the piano very well. Since 1996 she has been active with her career and nowadays she is preparing a new CD. This is a well-known song but others are probably more famous.
This song explains how she sees the life and the problems that there are in it. I like this song because of its music and I love the sound the violin and the piano and her voice is so beautiful. It’s important for me because the lyrics are very nice and the music too. I like listening to this song and others of this singer in the moments when I’m down and when I listening to ,I sing and then I’m more relaxed and happy. I don’t like to change anything from the song.
The videoclip is good and I think that it explains the meaning of the song very well.In the videoclip you can see Lucie playing the piano and singing and she remembers the things that have happened to her.
In conclusion, I like this song a lot because the song wakes all your feelings up.

MY FUTURE

In 20 years my life will be like now more or less. I will be taller than now, with long hair and thin. I will be very nice, hard-working and I will live very happily.

I will have a house in Barcelona. The house will have a big garden and I will have a small dog. I will live with my boyfriend, who I will have met at university. We won’t have children by the moment. And sometimes we will visit my family in Avià.

I will teach Catalan in a High School in Barcelona and my boyfriend will work as a doctor. In the afternoon when I finish working I will go shopping or to the gym. Some afternoons I will meet my friends to have a coffee. Every summer holidays we will visit different places.

My life will be very normal and in my free time I will travel a lot, I will go to some concerts because I love music and I will also take drama lessons. I like doing sport, and I will swim, run or play tennis.

NIGHTMARE

It was a dark and stormy night when my sister and I took the car to go shopping in Berga. While we were driving we saw that in Berga it was raining a lot.
When we arrived there, we phoned our friends to invite them, but they didn’t answer. We were worried, but we thought that they were on excursion.
In the street there weren’t any cars and nobody was having a walk. We tried to go to some shops but they were closed.
It was eight o’clock in the evening but it was darker than the other days.
Everything was very strange and we were scared!!
My sister tried to phone our parents but the mobile didn’t work.
I asked my sister if we could leave and go home, then we took the car and came back.
When we arrived, our parents weren’t at home and while we were looking for them, I heard a very loud noise. Suddenly I opened my eyes.
Everything was a dream, a bad dream.
I looked through the window and in Berga the sun was shining, it was a very strange night because everything had been a nightmare.

MY DAILY DAY

My name is Cristina.I'm fourteen.I live in a farm house with a big garden which is full of fruit trees, and we have a lot of animals. My house is situated in a small town near Avià called Graugés.
I have a brother, he is 23 years old, and a sister, she is 27 years old, but they don't live with me and my parents.

Every day I wake up at seven o'clock. I know it is very soon but I have to be ready with the necessary time to take the bus, wich carries me to High School in Berga. In this place I meet my friends and talk about all what happens during the day.

In my free time I go to a gym to swim. It's very funny because I see my friends and we play together. At the weekend, I go to do some activities whit my friends. For example: we go to the cinema, to take a drink and sometimes we have dinner together.
